For the last however many years, my parents have booked a holiday unbeknownst to us and taken us away somewhere sunny for ten days. This year was no different but, having missed last year's holiday to take a mini city-break travelling trip, I felt like this one held a little more gravitas as I was invited rather than my attendance assumed.

Very much creatures of habit, we returned to Turkey for the third year running but this was, by far, the most beautiful of the destinations we've visited previously. Flamingo Country Club is part of three complexes, with its sister grounds accessible by foot or free shuttle bus. It provided the quiet we craved with just the right amount of activity around the pools and on the private beach.

Located up in the mountains, the resort is subject to a light breeze which gave a little respite from the blazing heat throughout the day. Each cluster of buildings faced onto its own pool, with larger infinity and slide pools elsewhere on the complex. The slides were fast, uncluttered by queues, and a lot of fun, especially with my younger brother. Moreover the infinity pool looked over the Mediterranean Sea which is scattered with beautiful little coves. The sound of the waves reminded me of Falmouth and I was glad to be back by the water.

Bodrum itself is a (slightly nerve-wracking) Dolmuş ride away; apparently Dolmuş loosely translates to "squeeze" and, indeed, the bus was somewhat over-capacity! William is still little so we went into the port city one evening for a meal and found that it busied up rapidly just as we were leaving at 1am. Nonetheless the cuisine was beautiful although we were not utterly spoilt for choice.

With different jobs, varying hours, and a life away from home, I don't get to spend a lot of time with my family. Despite my usual urge to explore, fuelled by my perpetual wanderlust, we didn't go on any excursions but instead I was blessed with the opportunity to reconnect with the people I love most throughout the holiday. I feel very lucky to have been able to unwind in such a lovely part of Turkey.
